There are instances, too, when surgeons recommend additional body-contouring solutions, such as liposculpture, to further tone and define one’s figure. Of course, since you already invested a lot of time and effort in losing weight, you have to make sure that you keep the pounds off, and avoid the unhealthy lifestyle you once had. Safe Liposuction in Mexico: Helping You Achieve The Body You Desire

Though liposuction is not a solution for weight issues, particularly obesity, the procedure can help enhance the aesthetic aspect of the human body by eliminating fat cells. It's also a faster way for a patient to lose unwanted body mass compared to exercising, which may take awhile to get the needed results. Patients with gynecomastia may suffer from embarrassment and discomfort all their lives but this condition can be treated through liposuction or a combination of liposuction and excisional surgery. A clinic for liposuction in Mexico such as CosMed Plastic Surgery Center can be consulted for such procedure.

Potential Side Effects of Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery is a reasonable and quick alternative to the more traditional and time-consuming fitness programs for people who want to lose weight. However, these surgeries may give rise to certain complications, some of which can only be fixed by a so-called after weight loss surgical procedure, or cosmetic surgery designed to remove excess weight or skin.

These two are quite common among people who opted for a quick weight loss program or treatment because their skin was stretched throughout their obesity. The speedy nature of the weight loss procedure they had, especially if it is a bariatric surgery, didn’t allow the skin to revert back to normal. Depending on where the excess skin is located, a person may have to undergo a hip, thigh, arm, lower or upper body lift; any of which can be time-consuming by themselves.

Other side-effects, like gallstones and pulmonary embolism, are beyond the powers of an after weight loss procedure though. Some people may have trouble absorbing vitamins and minerals due to the changes in their metabolism. There are some cases of people developing pneumonia after a bariatric surgery, due to the added stress placed on their chest cavity. Those who encounter these things yet still want to remove excess fat or skin would need to speak with a physician before getting a body lift.

A Brief History of Plastic Surgery

Beautification has long been a big deal for people. These days, it can (at least partly) be accomplished by undergoing plastic surgery. The procedure may be considered one of the oldest arts of healing in the world. In fact, evidence has revealed that medical treatments used for facial injuries date back to more than 4,000 years ago.

However, it wasn't after hundreds of years– into the 19th and 20th century, that plastic surgery was established in the US and Europe. Dr. John Peter Mettauer, the first American plastic surgeon, performed the first ever cleft palate operation in 1827 with instruments that he designed.

During the late 1800s to early 1900s, one of the reasons that plastic surgery developed was because of the wars that left most people with severe injuries such as broken jaws and severely-damaged noses and lips. Most of the best plastic surgeons during this time were in Europe. However, American surgeons like Varaztad Kazanjian of Boston and Vilray Blair of St. Louis were also famous for serving their countrymen through this field.

During this period, plastic surgery developed because physicians realized, quoting the words of John Orlando Roe, 19th century American plastic surgeon, “How much valuable talent (had) been...buried from human eyes, lost to the world and society by reason of embarrassment...caused by the conscious, or in some cases, unconscious influence of some physical infirmity or deformity or unsightly blemish."

Can Tummy Tucks Do More Than Make You Look Good?

Vanity can sometimes influence you to make big decisions about your body. One is to undergo abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, after a major weight loss episode or pregnancy. Without knowing much about this procedure, you may think that it's all about keeping your torso attractive since it involves the removal of fat and excess skin from the abdomen area.

While this is true, a tummy tuck also has health benefits you may not be aware of and weight maintenance is one of them. A study concludes that patients who have gone through the procedure tend to keep their weight off right after the surgery. This allows them to shed off more pounds and reach their weight goals. It is also believed that the removal of abdominal fat cells reduces the level of hormones responsible for appetite. This is proven by the fact that most patients who’ve undergone the procedure tend to feel less hungry and feel full right after a meal.

Moreover, abdominoplasty when combined with other surgical procedures like hysterectomies and kidney transplant is a good strategy when done safely. Removing abdomen fat and extra skin lessens the risk of infection and improves the healing process after a surgery.

Cosmetic Surgery Facts: On Mommy Makeovers

Pregnancy and childbirth take quite a toll on women, not only emotionally and mentally, but physically too. This is where the mommy makeover comes in to save the day. Essentially, it is a series of cosmetic surgeries and laser treatments designed to restore a woman’s physique and overall looks after bearing children.

Are You a Candidate?

The main rule that dictates who can get a mommy makeover is that the candidate should be completely done with having children. Moreover, you should also have been done breastfeeding your last child before getting this treatment and have already lost much of the pregnancy weight that you’ve incurred. As a rule, you should also wait a minimum of six months after you’ve given birth to your last baby.

Benefits

At the outset, the main benefit of getting this treatment is cost; since this already involves a package of various surgeries, you can save up on what you would normally pay for each separate procedure. Moreover, certain surgeries like breast augmentation and tummy tuck, when combined, can significantly cut down on your recovery time.

How to Get One

You should always tell your trusted plastic surgeon first before undergoing this surgery; after all, almost every medical procedure has an accompanying risk or two. Moreover, you might also want to check with your general physician or your OB-GYN to find out if you’re in for any complications should you choose to go through with it.

Why You Might Need After-Weight Loss Surgery

Following major weight loss, whether it’s acquired through natural (exercise) or surgical (bariatric surgery) procedures, men and women alike may experience sagging skin. It is, after all, an elastic organ which tends to lose its elastic components after weight loss. This is also why the skin does not automatically shrink back even though fat has already been removed from the body.
As a result, most people who lost weight rapidly may develop excessive facial and neck skin, saggy upper arms, flattened breasts with nipples pointed downward, flabby abdomen that may extend around the side and into the lower back, as well as hanging buttocks, groin, hips, and thighs. For some people, skin excess can be a serious problem that can significantly affect self-esteem. As if the weight loss struggle itself is not enough, skin sagging is yet another battle.
One way to achieve the body shape that you want is after-weight loss surgery or post-bariatric surgery. This procedure offered in many plastic surgery clinics aims to tighten loose skin and underlying muscles, and remove excess fat. The outcome is a toned body with smoother contours.
Before undergoing after-weight loss surgery, patients, however, must make sure that their weight loss has stabilized. A stabilized weight is essential, because skin sagging may redevelop if the patient continues to lose weight. Other candidates for this procedure include healthy individuals without medical condition, non-smokers, and most especially, individuals with realistic goals and who are committed to leading a healthy lifestyle after the surgery.

What to Know Before Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

Undergoing cosmetic or plastic surgery is a serious matter as there are health risks involved. If you consider going under the knife, do not forget the importance of choosing the right doctor. Here are a few guidelines to follow when searching for your potential plastic surgeon:
  • Make sure the surgeon is board-certified. Not all claiming to be plastic surgeons are actually qualified and trained in the practice. As you are the patient, you should have a lot of impetus for you check on the qualifications of your would-be surgeon. It should also be a good idea to see if the doctor has had any legal issues in the past regarding his professional practice.
  • Ask if the doctor has hospital privileges. Plastic surgery can only be performed in accredited hospitals and office-based facilities. If your surgery will be performed outside of the hospital, make sure that your doctor has privileges to do the same procedure in an accredited hospital.
  • Prepare for cost. Plastic surgery is not usually covered by insurance, so chances are you’ll be paying for the entire amount of the procedure. Fees vary depending on the technique, length, and complexity of the operation. Keep in mind also that you will be needing post-op medications.
  • Ask questions. Plastic surgery is a major operation and that’s why you have to be fully aware of every detail there is to know about it. Don't be afraid to ask questions. That's what initial consultations are for, anyway.

Tummy Tuck 101: The Risks and Complications

Knowing about the ins and outs of a tummy tuck before you finally decide to go through such major surgery is extremely crucial. This type of surgery can be very beneficial, but it also come with risks and complications. So the more that you understand the potential complications associated with a tummy tuck surgery, the easier it gets to analyze whether the benefits are worth taking a risk for.
The most common risks are:
  • Bleeding, Fluid collections
  • Slow wound healing, numbness
  • Sitting stitches, asymmetry
  • Skin discoloration, fat/skin necrosis
The major complications, which could be fatal yet rare, are infection, pneumonia, loss of the umbilicus, DVT or blood clots in the legs, Pulmonary Emboli or blood clot in the lungs, and death.
Basically, the qualifications of the patient and how well the procedures are executed determine the success of the operation. The likelihood of risks to transpire is generally minimal, even rare, in a healthy and absolutely qualified patient. Thus, learning about the factors such as smoking that contribute to the manifestation of risks and their possible remedies are imperative.
The best thing that you can do to avoid or reduce any of the risks linked to tummy tucks is to find a truly proficient cosmetic surgeon. Ideally, your surgeon should be able to properly inform you about the necessary preparations, step by step procedure, means to a faster recovery, overall cost, and whether you are qualified enough to undergo the surgery based on your personal circumstances.

What to Do Before Undergoing Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgeries come with numerous benefits. However, as it remains to be technically a medical procedure, it is imperative that you trust only a professional who is duly certified and qualified for the job.
Proceed with caution, particularly when you want to undergo cosmetic surgery in Mexico. While the industry is booming in Mexico, which is good, the downside is that this sudden popularity attracts even those “practitioners” who are unqualified in performing various procedures. So for a safer and more rewarding experience, see to it that you follow these simple tips below:
Objectives Define your goals, motivations and expectations. The success of the operation is less likely to help you deal with your social and personal issues if you’re still struggling with your negative outlook in life.
Complement You should know by now that outer beauty is not all there is to it. Never make the decision to change your appearance through surgeries on a whim, regardless of whether you can afford or not, if only to cure your insecurities. Remember, it's much better if you look good outside, and at the same time, feel good inside.
Research It's important to find out how credible the cosmetic surgery clinic is. Look for accreditation and other proof of their expertise, experience and quality of service. Go for a surgery center that is accommodating and systematic enough to help you go through the process with all the information and assurance that you need.

What are the Benefits of Botox Treatments?

Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Botox is a drug created from the neurotoxic protein called botulinum toxin and is normally injected into the skin. Botox injections are commonly used for cosmetic purposes, usualy to erase wrinkles and facial lines. However, what most people are not aware of is that botox also has other medical and health benefits.

One common benefit of botox is the reduction of migraines and headaches. Because the drug relaxes the muscle and releases tension, injections to the forehead and neck can result in the prevention of chronic migraines, as well as help relieve muscle and joint pain. Other benefits include better bladder control, particularly for those with overactive bladders, reduced sweating, and effective eye treatments for patients with strabismus or crossed eyes and blepharospasm or eyelid spasms. Furthermore, botox can serve as treatment for more serious diseases such as dystonia, which is a neurological movement disorder, and neuropathy, which refers to peripheral nervous system damage.

The procedure only takes a few minutes. The cosmetic effects can usually be seen within three days to one week after the drug is injected into the muscle, and can last up to six months. Furthermore, the procedure doesn't require anesthesia and allows for very minimal discomfort. Patients who wish to undergo botox treatments should consult with trusted physicians. This is to ensure that they are properly educated about the possible health risks of such treatments.

Achieving The Complete Package: Why Beauty Sells

The old adage dictates that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” but less attractive people are often the object of ridicule. If beautiful people are put on the pedestal, becoming successful in their field, and getting all the promotions just for having the right set of genes, then how would Average Janes and Joes would feel about themselves? Would they turn to science to help bring out their best looking selves? Many people are still divided over this issue.

To prove that beauty is powerful, Dr Bryan Mendelson, former president of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, claims that beautiful people do better in their lives. Beauty can change one's life, given the universal truth that people have been hardwired to appreciate aesthetics. He also emphasizes that beautiful people are more competitive in life, probably because they have that innate confidence. Everyone must know the logic behind this – when you look good, you feel good. That is why people who have glowing faces or auras often get complimented, and this fuels them to do better.

In the same manner that US economist Daniel S. Hamermesh coined the term 'pulchronomics', Dr. Mendelson published books that tackle the economic value of good looks. If we are to analyze it, a lot of advertisements and billboards incorporate beautiful people when promoting their products. Psychology has an answer to this, which is to serve as promote positive stimuli to the market. Given the human nature that people act positively on positive stimuli, then they are most likely to patronize products that sell beauty.

Things that Patients Should Know Before Getting a Tummy Tuck

It will take a lot of attention and care to have a successful tummy tuck, and to get that, here are some things that tummy tuck patients should know:

Plan enough time off everything

This isn't only your time off from work, but also some time off from taking care of your home, children and other family members whom you are responsible for. The minimum is two weeks before you could go on with your normal life again, like going back to your job. When you do get back to work, it is better if you work only half the day, at least for the first week. Also, keep in mind that you should be doing heavy physical work for three weeks.

You will be wiped out for six weeks

Two weeks after the surgery, you can go back to your work and focus on your job. The pain that you will be feeling can be managed with an ibuprofen. However, by the time that you get home, expect that you will be wiped out from all the work. For six weeks, you will be stressed out and wouldn't be able to do things that you used to do.

Nutrition is important

Most people don't eat regular meals. However, it is recommended that you try as much as you can to get the nourishment your body needs, especially after a procedure as major as a tummy tuck. Remember, your wound is still healing, and you will need all the nutrients you can get to make the healing time go faster. Don't even think about trying to lose weight at the same time – it's just going to cost your health more.

Medical Tourism: A Viable and Affordable Option

Outsourcing has been a common trend in the U.S. because of cheaper labor. In fact, even medical procedures done outside the country, whether for cosmetic or healthcare, has become a popular trend.

Medical tourism oftentimes pertains to patients going to a more developed country where there is better healthcare. However, for Americans, this means going to other countries like Mexico where the same level of skill and practice can be acquired for a cheaper price tag.

Economists and analysts can go on forever as to why supposedly cheap medicine is still expensive compared to other countries. However, the fact is that medical services have gone high enough to convince people to explore the healthcare systems of other countries. Although many people could make lists of the different risks in getting medical procedures done outside the country, medical tourism has indeed become a viable option for those who cannot afford bills in the U.S.

Medical tourism isn't actually all that bad. There are many practitioners outside the U.S. who have received adequate training from reputable schools as well as hospitals within the U.S. itself. Just make sure that the clinic or hospital you're considering has all the necessary licensing in their country as well as accreditation and certifications. Find out where they have received their training and look through online sites and see if you can find reviews and testimonies. It also helps if their company has been recognized by publications and media outlets.

The Health Benefits of Safe and Trusted Liposuction in Mexico

However, when looking for the best liposuction in Mexico, you have to be physically healthy and psychologically stable to undergo this procedure. You have to be aware of the limitations of the procedure and be realistic about the outcome. It is best suited for people with a healthy weight index, who might have pockets of fats in given areas, but whose skin are yet firm enough and elastic. People should still remember that a liposuction in Mexico is not the answer to reduce weight or cure one's obesity. For advise, visit established medical centers like the Cosmed Clinic with specialists who ensure medical safety to their patients, including preparation and post-surgery information care.

Cosmetic Surgery in Mexico: Medical Tours and Affordable Price Tags

Studies have shown that many medical-related purchases like surgery and medicine, whether for health reasons, cosmetic, or both, cost significantly lower than in US. Even with various programs aimed to lower costs, surgery abroad is still something many people consider. Acquiring reliable cosmetic surgery in Mexico, for example, can help people save 10-50% or more of what they would have spent in facilities within the U.S. While going abroad for surgery seems like a good choice because of the price cuts, many experts still suggest doing a thorough background check of the medical personnel in the company just as you would in the US to avoid the risk of getting botched procedures. Accredited Mexico cosmetic surgery clinics like the CosMed, for example, has a team of licensed surgeons who have undergone extensive medical training and certifications.

Society Has Grown to Accept Male Vanity

Blame reality television (or thank it) for the growing number or men who are willing to go under the knife in the name of beauty. Regardless of one's take on men's open desire to improve their physical appearance through plastic surgery, one thing remains for certain: that people, regardless of gender, want to look good. That universal desire, as it turns out, does not end with a mere want or wish; rather, it is realized through modification, enhancement, or even both in some cases.

Botox, microdermabrasion, and laser hair removal are some of the more popular procedures among men. That information tells us that they opt for non-invasive treatments that allow them to resume their regular activities at the soonest possible time. Since doctors performing such procedures have gained mastery over their techniques and have access to advanced equipment to aid them in the process, men may be less worried about satisfying their vanity.

While society will continue to dictate what is deemed beautiful in the eyes of both men and women, it is quite a relief to know that it respects men's efforts to comply. After all, the behavior of both sexes are frequently influenced by the same dictates.

Rewarding Plastic Surgery in Mexico for Careful Patients

It is no secret that many Americans cross the border to Mexico to seek cheaper medical treatments; these range from getting dental procedures to highly risky surgeries. When it comes to aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, there's no doubt that Mexico is a very popular destination for many Americans who wish to feel better about themselves, thus they undergo surgery to and get to enjoy the beauty of Mexico while they're at it.
The chances of something going wrong when undergoing surgery in Mexico are similar to those in the United States, but people who are looking into getting a procedure done in Mexico must be just as careful. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, where some Tijuana-based surgeons such as Cosmed's Dr. Alejandro Quiroz, suggests that patients should look for doctors that they can trust.

One way to make sure that your trust is not given blindly is to research his background. Look for an adequate length of training in surgery and experience in plastic surgery procedures, especially in the specific procedure that you are planning to have. By learning as much as you can about the doctor, his medical facilities, and comments from previous patients, you will be able to discern whether the facility is right for you.

The Tummy Tuck & Post-Operative Care

While tummy tucks yield great results, post-operative care can be hard to bear. The procedure is designed to remove excess skin and fat, while helping tighten the muscles. While you may be familiar with the benefits that come with tummy tucks, how will you recover from the procedure successfully?
The most critical period after the operation will be the first 48 hours, during which the harshest pain will occur. Take the medication that was prescribed by your doctor, and consume light snacks to help you combat nausea. Food may include hot soups and biscuits; consuming these before you drink the medicine may work as well. Anti-inflammatory medicines, such as any ibuprofen-based product, are out of the question for the next two weeks after the operation as they may cause the bruising to swell.

Your surgeon will recommend that you wear special compression garments after the operation. This is designed to reinforce back support and reduce abdominal swelling. However, take care not to adjust it too tightly to prevent constricting the blood flow in the affected area. While hot or cold compresses are known to ease the pain, such is not the case for tummy tuck recovery; applying them will reduce your ability to determine temperatures.

The Right Procedure for the Right Gender

Some plastic surgery procedures exist for both men and women, albeit the objectives for some procedures differ based on the patient's gender. Take facial rejuvenation, for instance; both men and women can benefit from having a face (pardon the hyperbole) that could launch a thousand ships and fire arrows at a thousand hearts. Liposuction is also a procedure for both sexes—removing excess fat from the least appropriate places. Hence, it's inaccurate to say that plastic surgery is mostly for women.

Breast augmentation works differently for men and women. In this procedure, the objective for women is to achieve a plumper and fuller breast. For men, however, the objective is to give the breast (commonly called pecs) a more appropriate size. Having the so-called “man breast” is actually a condition called gynecomastia, wherein the area has more fat than necessary. A simple combination of liposuction and surgery usually takes care of these man breasts.

Of course, other plastic surgery procedures are more common for either gender. Hair transplant procedures are more common in men because they're more prone to baldness than women. On the other hand, vaginal rejuvenation is exclusive to women since men do not possess this reproductive body part. Still, you can consult a licensed and experienced plastic surgeon about the procedures you're interested in.
